Methodology:

ETDA takes a contemporary approach to training. Its workshops and and sessions have been developed and evaluated according to the latest teaching theories of planning and practice.

The training is accessible to all Timorese. ETDA is unique in the delivery of courses in Tetun, by Timorese trainers with all support materials provided in Tetun.

The training is highly communicative and interactive. Participants learn through “doing” and involvement, so all sessions are participant-centred.

ETDA trainers create a relaxed and supportive environment where learners feel comfortable and respected.

Dependent on participant needs and demographics, sessions include a variety of materials and methodologies, including:

  • Presentation/lecture
  • Group discussion
  • Role-play and simulation

  • Delivery of courses in Tetun

ETDA Logo:

The logo was first presented at the Strategic Development Planning for East Timor Conference in Melbourne, Australia, in April 1999. ETDA’s first task was to complete the follow-up work from this Conference, and the organisation has retained the logo ever since.

Meaning:

Sana Rai: the small earthen cooking pot that nourishes the East Timorese family and the nation. Battered by war and bonded by Timor-Leste’s social cultures, the small fissures do not shatter.

Grandfather Crocodile: the living icon for East Timorese cultures.

Kadai: a simple bag of knotted cotton, with the knots representing small spirits of cooperation.

Colours: the blue, green and white behind the symbols represent the design of the CNRT flag.
