Trainer – Graduate Certificate of Vocational and Educational Training, Victoria University, Melbourne, Autralia; Diploma of Management, Melbourne-Australia; CERT III & IV TAA, Januario’s training experience covers 12 years, deliverying training sessions for government, non-government and private sector organisations. Januario presents training that is challenging, relevant and interactive particularly when he is
delivering the Critical and Creative Thinking course. Januario is one of ETDA’s principle trainers. In 2018 to 2019, Januario worked together with Australian Volunteer International Adviser and developed ETDA’s Leadership & Management curriculum Certificate III and IV Level course. In 2019, INDMO (Timor-Leste Training Authorities regulators) awarded an accreditation for this course. Januario teaches leadership and management, planning, setting goals, work ethics and tour guides. His specialty is doing job performance evaluation through aptitude tests and interviews in identify a person’s weakness and strengths and make recommendations of what to do next. In 2014, Januario worked with ILO and developed a Guesthouse Operators curriculum as a Tourism training Package. As a result, Januario visited four districts – Atauro, Maubisse, Baucau and Maliana to identify guesthouse operators and delivered training to over 100 hospitality workers. Januario has studied in 3 countries, is an expert in linguistics (speaking Tetun, English, Bahasa Indonesia, Makasae, Waimu and Hakka Chinese) and has delivered papers at conferences both in Timor-Leste and overseas. Januario was a recipient of the Australian Professional Award Scholarship in 2010. He was the winner of the People’s Choice 2020 Spirit of Victoria University Alumni Award, Melbourne, Australia.

Palmira has 12 years’ experience in Information Systems Management, where she worked as a public officer for local and state Government, Victoria – Australia. In 2000, Palmira moved to Timor-Leste and worked as the head of East Timor Development Agency (ETDA). In 2003,
Palmira established ETDA Training Centre, then in 2013 – ETDA Tourism and Hospitality Training Centre, later on ETDA Education Restaurant and ETDA Art Ceramic Centre. Palmira is the principle adviser of the development of ETDA courses and she always makes sure the curriculum is up to international standard in vocational learning. Palmira teaches management, leadership, project management and business financial management. Palmira believes in sharing skills and always encourages her students to think positive and move forward. Her teaching is set by examples, which becomes realistic in all her training. Palmira also teaches library studies, records management, cataloguing and filing. Palmira believes in strengthen the administration of an organisation and established electronic systems for ETDA’s Student’s Registration System and Financial system. Palmira is part of ETDA RPL team to develop assessment material as per job requirement and specification advised by INDMO/DNAFOP.
Trainer – Fonseca Miranda. Tourism and Hospitality Management, NIIT, India and International Relations, UNPAZ, TL. Fonseca joined ETDA since 2009. He trained across a variety of ETDA’s courses including Office Administration, Job Search, Training Other Trainers, Tour
Guide and Occupational Health & Safety.
The interaction and energy that Fonseca uses in his training is influenced by years of experience and the professional development that he has undertaken. As a trainer, he values the opportunity to develop his students’ skills so that they
have the knowledge and experience to seek, start or continue work. In the Occupational Health & Safety training, Fonseca offers his students a supportive and practical learning in a safe environment where the material is directly linked to skills that are needed in the workplace. He enjoys keeping courses current through regular evaluation and curriculum development.
TRAINER – In 2014, after completing his hospitality course at ETDA, Dom started his first job at a local restaurant. A year later, Dom joined the ETDA Education Restaurant team. Dom is now the principal Barista trainer. Recently he was awarded Cert III & IV in TAA. Dom was a visitor intern at the WildTimor Coffee Restaurant in Melbourne, Australia. In 2018, Dom received 3rd Prize in the Timor-Leste National Barista Competition.
Trainer – Val Oestro has been an English trainer with ETDA since October 2012. Heteaches English for beginners. He has over 10 years of teaching experience and has a master’s degree in management. Val’slanguage classes are an interactive mix ofgrammar foundation and
language practice, always encouraging his studentsto practice speaking the English language.
TRAINER – Former Hospitality student and former participant in the “2018 World Skills Competition” in China , Chef Rey is now a Resident Chef at ETDA Education Restaurant in charge of Pastry section. Chef Rey was recently awarded Cert III & IV in TAA. First prize winner of the 2019 Timor-Leste National Fruit Carving Competition.
TRAINER – Former Hospitality student and visitor intern at CIFA Jean Lambeloise Hospitality school in France, Chef Madeira is now a Resident Chef at ETDA Education Restaurant. Chef Madeira teaches Knife skills and Introduction to Chef course. Chef Madeira was recently
awarded Cert III & IV in TAA. First prize winner of the 2018 Timor-Leste National Fruit Carving Competition.
Trainer – Luisa Ferreira is our principle Hospitality Trainer with over 8 years teaching experience. A qualified trainer with Cert III & IV
in TAA, Luiza completed an Advanced Hospitality Training Program delivered by Charles Darwin University, Australia. Throughout the years Luisa accompany the development of Hospitality training in Timor-Leste and whatever she learned, she passed on to her students.
In 2014 Luisa attended the World Skills Asean Competition held in Hanoi, Vietna as an observer.
Trainer – Guido Baptista de Araujo – Bachelor’s degree of Arts major in Philosophy, St Claret College, Philippines. Guido is fluent in
6 languges: English, Portuguese, Spanish, Tagalo, Tetum &Bahasa Indonesia. Guido teaches English and Portuguese at ETDA. He has over 6 years experience in teaching, his classes are inetrractive and practical. Guido teaches English & Portuguese languages.
Trainer – Ernsto teaches English at ETDA. He is also an accountant specialising in Quickbooks. Ernestoe uses material that engages his students and includes practice of all the key language areas: speaking, reading, writing & listening. His classes are fresh and communicative zone where students feel comfortable to practice and extend their English skills.
Trainer – Ediana Guterres graduated in Tourism Management in Phillipines University. Upon returning to Timor-Leste, Ediana joined Hospitality Dept as a teacher aid. As time passed, Ediana began to teach Housekkeping and Customer Services. In 2015, Ediana was a recipient of the Professional Skills Scholarhip to study English language in Melbourne, Australia, funded by AusAid. In 2018, Ediana completed a Hospitality Vocational training program at William Anglisses Hospitality school based in Melbourne, Australia. Ediana recently was awarded Cert III & IV in TAA.
Trainer – Aderito is a former pottery student who learned the skills of pottery from an international volunteer Potter from Sweeden recruited by ETDA. During the past three years, Aderio produced a variety of handmade vases and added value to his ceramic art by
painting traditional Timorese motifs. His passion to learn ceramic art led Aderito to pass his skills to other fellow Timorese by creating short term classes. Recently Aderito was awarded a Cert III & IV in TAA which allows Aderito to delivery training at ETDA.
TRAINER -. Dean Read has over 30 years’ experience working in the Hospitality industry both in Australia and Timor-Leste. Dean held various positions in the Hospitality sector, where he worked as an Assistant baker, a Cook and later as Head Chef in various restaurants. In 2010, Dean join TOLL, the biggest Australia company in charge of catering for the oil & gas industries and held the position of Catering Manager & Trainer. The job was based in Timor-Leste, and since then Dean trained over 400 Timorese in the Hospitality Industry. Dean has a wide knowledge and experience in making assessments according to the standard performance expected in the workplace in the Hospitality industry. As Manager & Trainer of the ETDA Education Restaurant, Dean’s work is to supervise and assess the various sections of the ETDA Restaurant and ensure that it is run according to the International best practices of the Hospitality Industry.
Trainer – Majister of Management, Gajayana University, Indonesia. Cert III & IV in TAA. Jose has over 14 years teaching experience. His role covers training in administration, finance management, writing business proposals and tetum Orthography. His main focus is to create training that can sustain the interest and enthusiasm of his students as well as prepare them for the future employment. His classes are vibrant and energetic and he thinks that it is exciting and rewarding to be a part of the training process. Jose takes a holistic approach to his classes and is always ready to share his skills and experience. Jose is also the principle Tetum translator and develop the Fun with Tetum book.
Trainer – Certificate course in wirelss Administration, UTL Technology, India. Cert III & IV TAA. Samuel has been a computer trainer with ETDA since 2010. He trains in Word, Excel and Access at both Basic and Advanced levels. He trains on-site in Dili, as well as in the districts. Samuels’ IT experience includes work with the media and non-government organisations. He maintains that the demand for computer skills is increasing and that the courses offered at ETDA are an important foundation for students. Samuel also delivers customized computer courses upon request. Apart from training, Samuel is also responsible for ETDA’s ITC and he always makes sure that ETDA computers and software is upgraded.
